Welcome to Highlow Diabetes Print

Highlow is a support network, a town center for a community comprised of children, who live with juvenile type 1 diabetes, and their parents and family. When the group meets each month, their goals are twofold: to host an informational forum and to have a good time. While the children typically enjoy some form of entertainment, parents give each other advice about how to best look after a child who is a diabetic.

The group was born in 2005 when two mothers, Julie Sparages and Julia Hart (both are parents of diabetic 6 year old boys) were brought together by the need for someone local to talk to who could understand what they were going through.

As parents of diabetic children, Hart and Sparages formed an immediate bond. They both know what it's like to receive the news that their child has from juvenile type 1 diabetes, a disorder that occurs when the immune system destroys certain cells in the pancreas and causes the body to stop producing insulin.

"The goal is to create a place where families living with juvenile diabetes can interact with each other and realize they're not alone," Sparages said.

Welcome New Families Print

Highlow Diabetes is honored to welcome new familes to our community every day.  We are here to help you through a new and ever changing time.  This is a new beginning in the lives of our children that affects the whole family.  From pumps to monitoring your levels we will try and give advice and suggestions throughout your High's and Low's of Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.

Feel free to ask the community anything, we have all got some experience or another, some scare and some great laughs as we enter this new chapter in our family lives.  Each community member has their own perspective and each individual kid is different, we think that having so many voices to help boost your confidence may just be the answer you are looking for... until we find a cure.
